Winter favourites
It feels a bit premature writing this blog post ..considering it's still snowing in Toronto!! ୧((#Φ益Φ#))୨ But it's been a pretty good Winter so here goes!!
Experiences
I wanted to start with this section first cause there's so much I want to dive into!
- Pole: So pole has taken up probably 80% of my winter LOL and it has been amazing. I can't even begin to describe how happy pole makes me. I also love hanging out with my friend and doing pole classes with her and then spending time together at cafe every week (if you're reading this pls 4get this im SHY but tysm.....you're the best (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄))
It took awhile but I finally started watching my own recordings and even sharing some of them on my pole instagram account! ♡( ◡‿◡ ) I had this intense fear that I must look so dumb and awkward but I really..don't (most of the time LMAO). And even the awkwardness and fumbling and staring off looking all confused is fun to watch. I'm feeling more confident in my own skin and with my sensuality. I remember my first pole classes I was wearing these long biker shorts, couldn't make eye contact with myself in the mirror, felt EXTREME anxiety and now I'm wearing booty shorts and lifting my ass in the air??? WHAT HAPPENED TO ME LOL (I LOVE IT!!) I actually have little muscles too!!
I love my teachers (I HAVE SO MANY CRUSHES Y'ALL) and the entire community. We're doing 3 classes a week, 2 drop in classes at one studio and a cohort at the other and they're both wonderful in their own way. I've been doing this for ...almost 5 months now?! This has been such a wonderful hobby and I can't see myself stopping as long as my body will allow .・゚゚・(/ω\)・゚゚・.
- Stretching: This kinda ties into pole but I've been stretching more trying to get my splits. I almost have my front splits but my straddle is....big OOF. Andrew has been doing it with me too and we're gonna #stayflexy (ノ= ⩊ = )ノ
- Cottage trip: We had a cottage trip with friends in Prince Edward County during the winter break and christmas. It was really nice and relaxing and I appreciated having a bigger family for christmas.
- NYE: I'm always anxious about hosting at my place especially since I'm bringing together people who don't usually spend time together. But I feel like this is a really nice group and I love hosting them and it's nice spending some holidays together every year. |・ω・)
Anniversary pottery: Our 1 year wedding anniversary happened this winter and we spent it painting some plates just like what we used to do in Halifax during our anniversary when we first started dating. I can't believe I've been with my husb for almost a decade, time really flies!
Tattoos: I got two new tattoos during the winter (speedrun any %) and Andrew got a tattoo of our cats. I adore our tattoos and I WANT MORE (also kinda wanna yoink Andrew's tattoo but I helped design it so it's okay..right)!
Therapy: I've been seeing my therapist biweekly and I think I've had 6 or 7 sessions now?! I adore my therapist. She is so personable, empathetic and gives me homework I want to do for once in my life. I look forward to seeing her and I can already see the impact she's having on my life.
ex-coworker gatherings: I should just call them my fwends instead of ex-coworkers LOLʕ •̀ o •́ ʔ. We see each other at our ex managers (FRIEND'S) house, play boardgames, chat, pet her cute cats, and I often get bullied smh. I love it tho! And monthly(?)ish some of us grab brunch and hangout afterwards and I'm glad this routine has stuck! I miss working with them a ton but this is the next best thing and I'm glad we chat daily on discord and have a cursed insta chatroom LOL
Andrew going to melee locales: Okay this isn't even my experience but I get to experience him experience it and it's really lovely. I see him improving so much and getting out of his comfort zone. I hope he makes lots of friends cause he's an amazing friend (≧◡≦)
Meduza && Chris Lake && Armin & deadmau5 @ Rebel: Okay whew this is a lot of experiences so I'm going to bundle these together. We saw Meduza and Chris Lake with our friends and it's always a great time. I always feel a bit closer to them, we hangout together beforehand, go to the show, and then they usually sleep over for a day or two and we just relax together. I love adult sleepovers LOL.
As for Armin and deadmau5 - it was just my husband and I and whew we are the youngest 30 year olds ever. We stayed close to 4am for Armin and then almost 5:30am for deadmau5 (*/ω\) dancing the night away. I loved Armin, especially his more trance stuff near the end of the night.
deadmau5 - Okay, I made this into its own bullet point oops. I don't even know where to begin. He played until 5:30am, not even a closer - he was the closer. It felt like such an intimate moment. The crowd was so much smaller and he was playing so many classics that he hasn't played in years. He played the Faxing Berlin x Longest Road remix and I got really really emotional. I never heard this mix and it's become my favorite and will be a core memory for me. I remember shouting at Andrew "THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE LONGEST ROAD..wait IT IS THE LONGEST ROAD". Longest Road is what got me into deadmau5 and it was my 2nd time seeing him and I know that's a rare song to bring out. It's over 15 years old!! But he did and when he said to the crowd that he didn't want to go home, I felt that to my core. (っ´ω`)ノ(╥ω╥) I'm not really one for parasocial relationships but I hope Joel takes care of himself. His music has been taking care of me. On a closing note, I can really feel his love and mourning for Professor Meowingtons.
- Exploring the West End - We've been thinking about settling down and home ownership and I'm falling in love with the west end. It's always fun exploring a new neighborhood but this one in particular is leaving a lasting impression..
Music
I got a few A LOT of songs I wanted to share (old and new)!
Fleur De Saison - Emilie Simon I rediscovered this banger after recovering my last.fm account. I was jamming to this song non-stop for a solid month, glad I found it again, I adore her voice.\(≧▽≦)/
Longest Road & Faxing Berlin- deadmau5 (sorry this is the only YT rip LMAO, 240p??) The Longest Road is my favourite EDM song, by far - not even close. I discovered this song almost two decades ago and it was my introduction to deadmau5. I can't even begin to explain how this song makes me feel. deadmau5 dusted off this mix at Rebel during his 5hr+ set and it made me so incredibly emotional. I was in disbelief that he was playing it and kept telling Andrew "this sounds like the longest road!!" LOL
THE SLEEPWALK - warp-wet-woods (android52 Edit) THIS REMIX SLAPS. THE ORIGINAL IS SO GOOD BUT THIS IS INCREDIBLE AH (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
Linger & Duvet - Cranberries and Boa Single handedly made me install TikTok LMAO. The best mashup I've ever heard and I hate mashups. Makes me want to re-watch serial experiments lain... (¬‿¬ )
MONEY ON THE DASH - Marlon Hoffstadt I AM OBSESSED WITH DADDY TRANCE. I NEED HIM TO COME TO TORONTO. MY GERMAN BROTHER IF YOU EVER READ THIS PLS.
Ich will nur dass du weißt - SDP, IIVEN, NESS German techno?? I'm growing into the German stereotype day by day..
Billie Toppy - Men I Trust - I discovered Men I Trust a few months ago and I've been obsessed. I could add like 10 more songs in this list but I'll stick with this one that has the grooviest riff.
Waltzing Back - No Vacation - Laaast one but another new artist I discovered, I used this for one of my pole videos lmao.
Movie/TV
Saw a couple great movies this winter!
- All of us strangers Convinced Paul Mescal is just here to fuck me up. I rarely watch movies in the theatre (I need subtitles lol). But I'm really glad I watched this in theatres. It hit really hard and too close to home (once a again). I was def crying in the theatre and could hear an older gentlemen crying too. I think this is a lovely movie but the ending was a hard watch.
- Bottoms, this movie was just so silly. I loved it. I'm pretty picky when it comes to comedies and this one had me cackling.
- Pearl, what a fun watch and the cinematography and custom design was INCREDIBLE. Also I have a huge crush on Pearl (or is it a crush on Mia Goth IDK).
And a few great tv shows, old a new.
- Station Eleven. Easily one of my favorite TV shows of all time. The writing, pacing, and character(I LOVE FRANK) driven plot is incredible and the concept was amazing. My only complaint is why did the TV adaptation change the setting from Toronto to Chicago \\٩(๑`^´๑)۶//
- Survivor Season 45, oh my god what a great season, I'm glad Survivor reverted back to longer episodes SO MUCH BETTER. I WANNA APPLY FOR SURVIVOR FRICK.
- The Simpsons, we got a Disney+ trial and were binging Simpsons seasons, I forget how good the earlier seasons are.
Reading
I only read one book LMAO and it's a short one but it counts..
- The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, I read the last few chapters alone in a coffee shop and I was CRYING. Full on snotty sobs. Andrew picked me up afterwards and laughed at me but I guess I left a great impression cause he ended up reading the book shortly after and also really liked it. An old friend of mine recommended me this book and I wish I didn't take so long to pick it up but I'm convinced this book found me at the right time. (。•́︿•̀。)
Video Games
- Pocket Card Jockey - I can't believe they remade this game on the Switch. It's so WEIRD. You are racing (and breeding) horses while playing this anxiety inducing solitaire.
- Rhythm Heaven (all series) - I've been replaying the entire series starting with the fan translation of the GBA one and I'm on the 3ds version now. I love this game series, I hope they release a new one (also the fanmade one is INCREDIBLE).
- Baldur's Gate 3 - Okay i'm still in Act 3, please don't judge me LMAO. But the writing, animations and atmosphere are incredible. ALSO I LOVE LAE'ZEL SO MUCH
- Persona 3 Reload - 10/10 music, fun combat, neat story. My only big complaint (minus the price tag) is no FEMC. (っ´ω`)ノ(╥ω╥)
